Graduate Fellow in AI (2025- )
Chloë Farr is a PhD student in Computer Science at the University of Victoria and a graduate fellow with Kula: Library Futures Academy, where she develops open-source AI tools for optical character recognition and handwritten text recognition in GLAM institutions. Her work sits at the intersection of computational linguistics, applied machine learning, and archival ethics, with a particular focus on building evaluation infrastructure that helps cultural heritage organizations make informed, resource-conscious decisions about AI adoption. She holds a background in linguistics, including phonetics, voice and speech recognition, and computer assisted language learning, and brings a sustained commitment to community consent and data sovereignty to her research practice. Her current work is in partnership with institutions across Canada and Europe.
