Young Canada Works Digital Heritage Research Assistant (2026)
Linnea Thorson is a second year student in the Master of Archival Studies and Master of Library and Information Studies (MASLIS) program at the University of British Columbia School of Information. She is especially interested in archival studies and practice as they relate to human rights work, the study of records as sites of power, and memory studies.
Linnea is very excited to take on the role of the YCW Digital Heritage Research Assistant at the University of Victoria Libraries this summer. In this position, she hopes to refine her digitization skills, deepen her project administration experience, and learn more about grant and proposal development. Linnea is especially enthusiastic to work on the Sersal and Kashmir Valley projects, led by Dr. Nathaniel Brunt, given these projects’ basis in human rights work and archival practice. Indeed, these projects exemplify what she hopes to do as a career within the fields of Library and Information Studies and Archival Studies.
Prior to beginning the MASLIS program, Linnea completed a Master of Arts in French and Francophone studies at the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Arts in French and Francophone studies at Earlham College. Her M.A. research examined the literary works and lives of two Martinican women, Paulette and Jane Nardal, who were at the forefront of the francophone literary “Négritude” movement in interwar Paris.
